RBNIAN UNIVERSITY

Many companies like to say that “We are a family.” What they mean is that  “our organization treats each one like he or she is part of one big happy family.” This is a good practice and has worked in many organizations. But we in Reyes  Barbecue think of our organization in another way.

Here at Reyes Barbecue we say : “We are a University.

Why University and not Family?

Many companies like to say that “We are a family.” What they mean is that  “our organization treats each one like he or she is part of one big happy family.” This is a good practice and has worked in many organizations. But we in Reyes  Barbecue think of our organization in another way.

Here at Reyes Barbecue we say : “We are a University.”

There is nothing wrong with referring to one’s organization as a family. But we prefer to think of ourselves as a “University” for the following reasons :

  1. A family stands for unconditional love. We think that the concept of unconditional love is beautiful, but not suited to the culture needed to manage performance and accountability in a large and growing organization.
  2. A family’s leadership is based on seniority in age. We believe that functional leadership should be based not on age or tenure, but on competence, attitude,  performance and results

The concept of a university has characteristics which align very well with our desired
Reyes Barbecue culture :

  1. The love of not only learning, but of continuous learning.
  2. The idea that one can “pass” or “fail,” and therefore, one must make the effort to learn and study to pass, because failure means one must leave the university.
  3. The idea that one can excel and be recognized for it – much like when one“graduates with honors.” Effort and results will be recognized with promotion
  4. The disciplines of reading, researching, critically thinking, analyzing – are of prime importance in a learning environment. They are also of prime importance in a competitive business environment.
